Idunna

Idunna is the quarterly journal published by the Troth. The journal is named for the Norse goddess Íðunn, whose golden apples keep the gods and goddesses ever vibrant. With this journal and our other worthy actions, we revivify these Gods and Goddesses, and restore them to their vital role in our world and our lives. We come together now to forge again the Hammer of the North that is our own Troth.

Idunna (ISSN 1937-397X) publishes material on all aspects of pre-Christian Germanic religion and culture. We cover both the ancient religions of the the Norse, Anglo-Saxons, Goths, and continental Germans, and the various modern revivals of these old ways, collectively known as Heathenry. A typical issue of Idunna is 48 pages long, and includes articles and essays, poetry, fiction, artwork, regular columns, announcements of upcoming events, and book and music reviews. Each issue has a theme, announced a year in advance, although not every piece in an issue must necessarily fit the theme.

All Troth members receive a subscription to Idunna. Non-members may subscribe to Idunna for the same price as Troth membership (note that non-member subscribers do not receive access to the mailing list, voting rights, or members-only content). Retailers may contact the Troth directly for information on pricing.

BACK ISSUES: We reprint most of our back issues through Lulu.com, as both print copies and as PDF downloads. Back issues not listed on Lulu.com may be ordered directly from the Troth while supplies last. Visit the Troth's Store for more information.

FOR CONTRIBUTORS: We welcome essays, research writings, short stories, poetry, artwork, and letters to the Editor, both on announced themes and on general subjects of interest. All submitted materials should be sent via e-mail to the Editor, Diana Paxson, at greyhavn@earthlink.net. If a submission is significantly larger than about 500 Kb, please contact the Editor first for instructions on how to submit the file.

Text submissions should be sent in RTF (Rich Text Format), TXT (Text format), or DOC (Microsoft Word). Photographs and artwork are printed in grayscale (except for the covers, which are printed in color), and if possible, should be submitted in a high-quality electronic format such as PDF, PNG, or TIFF, at a resolution of 300 dpi or greater. Images may need to be resized to fit the issue's layout. If electronic submission is not possible, we may be able to scan camera-ready artwork, or transcribe typed or written manuscripts. Such work may be mailed to our Editorial Office at: The Troth, c/o Diana L. Paxson, PO Box 472, Berkeley, CA 94701-0472.

Essays and short stories are typically 5000 words or fewer, although longer ones may be printed if space is available. Book, music, and movie reviews are typically 500-1500 words. Articles that rely on other published works (books, journals, Websites, etc.) should include a bibliography and in-text references as needed, in accordance with academic standards. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to make minor editorial changes to submitted works to correct errors in grammar, spelling, and style.

Idunna does not accept materials that advocate, promote or reflect discrimination or intolerance based upon race, gender, sexual orientation and the like. Furthermore, the Troth exists to promote the pre-Christian religions and folkways of the historical Germanic peoples. Material on other religions or cultures, or on general neopagan or "New Age" topics, is not likely to be published unless it shows some clear connection to the Troth's primary purpose of promoting Heathenry. Would-be contributors who are not Troth members, or who are not familiar with Idunna's focus, should consult the Troth's Statement of Purpose, and should probably peruse a back issue or two.

All materials published in Idunna reflect the opinions of their respective authors, and do not necessarily reflect the policies or opinions of The Troth, unless specifically so designated.
