The Troth Closes Red Hammer Charity

Official Announcements | January 8, 2026

The Red Hammer Disaster Relief Charity Fund Closed

At the end of 2025, The Troth closed the Red Hammer charity fund and dispersed the full remaining restricted balance in accordance with donor intent and the fund’s stated purpose of disaster relief and humanitarian aid.

On 11/26/2025, the Board of Directors voted to:

  • Stop accepting any new Red Hammer donations, and

  • Disburse the entire remaining restricted balance to qualified disaster-relief and community-aid organizations.

Financial summary (remaining restricted balance)

  • Restricted Red Hammer balance as of 12/1/2025: $1,715

  • Total disbursed between 12/1/2025 and 12/31/2025: $1,715

  • Remaining Red Hammer balance after disbursement: $0

  • No Red Hammer funds were used for The Troth’s operating expenses.

Where the funds went

Disbursements were made to organizations providing direct disaster relief and essential services. Recipients were selected based on alignment with Red Hammer’s disaster-relief purpose and their ability to deploy aid rapidly.

The Troth paid $79.18 in transaction fees from operating funds, not from the Red Hammer restricted balance. Because some processors deduct fees, receipt amounts may show a net figure that differs from the authorized disbursement totals.

Receipts are available to members on request.

Why we closed the fund (at least for now)

Red Hammer requires consistent administration (intake, verification, documentation, timely distribution, and reporting). Over time, our volunteer capacity was not sufficient to maintain administration at a standard required to responsibly steward restricted charitable funds.

Continuing to collect restricted donations without the operational capacity to administrate or distribute them promptly increases financial, legal, and reputational risk, especially for an all-volunteer organization.

Because we could not guarantee sustainable administration and reporting, the Officers and Board of Directors together determined that closing the fund was the most responsible option.

What this means going forward

Red Hammer will remain closed unless and until The Troth can staff it with:

  • a designated program administrator (or committee) with defined responsibilities,

  • written procedures for selection and disbursement,

  • clear timelines for distribution, and

  • routine reporting to the membership.

If a future disaster-relief fund is re-established, it will include stricter governance, documentation, and public reporting requirements from day one.
