Idunna is the quarterly journal published by the Troth, which we have published since 1988. The journal is named for the Norse goddess Íðunn, whose golden apples keep the gods and goddesses ever vibrant. With this journal and our other worthy actions, we revivify these Gods and Goddesses, and restore them to their vital role in our world and our lives. We come together now to forge again the Hammer of the North that is our own Troth.

Idunna (ISSN 1937-397X) publishes material on all aspects of pre-Christian Germanic religion and culture. We cover both the ancient religions of the the Norse, Anglo-Saxons, Goths, and continental Germans, and the various modern revivals of these old ways, collectively known as Heathenry. A typical issue of Idunna is 48 pages long, and includes articles and essays, poetry, fiction, artwork, regular columns, announcements of upcoming events, and book and music reviews. Each issue has a theme, announced a year in advance, although not every piece in an issue must necessarily fit the theme.

All Troth members receive a subscription to Idunna. Non-members may subscribe to Idunna for the same price as Troth membership (note that non-member subscribers do not receive access to the mailing list, voting rights, or members-only content). Retailers may contact the Troth directly for information on pricing.

The Troth has three main communication platforms for use of our members.

  • Google Groups
  • Facebook Group
  • Discord Server

These communications platforms are moderated by The Troth moderation team to promote our values of inclusivity and anti-bigotry. Founded on mutual respect and curiosity.

While we pride ourselves and our Stewards on holding events to help educate and serve the public at large, but there are also private events like our yearly Trothmoot conference which are accessible to members only.

Our Lore Program has a free sample course available for the public, but members can get access to the full Lore Program to further their study. After a year of membership, members can enter into the Clergy Program if they feel called to serve.

Both of these programs are free to members.

Membership includes a 1-year subscription (four issues) to Idunna, access to our e-mail lists, and after one year, eligibility for our Clergy and Lore training programs. To see the cost of memberships, including electronic versus paper subscription to Idunna (our quarterly journal), tap on the drop menu below.

We mail our journal, Idunna, from the Continental United States of America, thus it costs more to join if you are overseas or outside the country- but electronic membership (where you download your own PDF copy of Idunna from our member’s website) is the same no matter where you live. We recommend joining electronically whenever possible, as mailing a check can take up to four weeks before you may have access to our site- and electronic should give you immediate access.

In choosing to join The Troth, you agree to abide by the following:

“I agree to treat all Troth members with respect regardless of tradition, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, gender, or family structure in accordance with the Bylaws and policies of The Troth.”
