About the Heathenry Essentials Study Chat
Welcome to Heathenry (also known as Asatru).
Every month, Heathen Essential Chat and social
Perhaps you are beginning your journey as a Heathen. You may have friends or family that have
become Heathen, and you’d like to know more about it. We hope that, as you work through the
readings, essays, and sample questions, you will develop a fuller understanding of Asatru and
what it means to be Heathen in a modern context. This free resource is available to the public
as part of our continuing mission to educate and serve. You can take this course without
membership in The Troth to learn more about the basics of our faith.
How the Heathenry Essentials Study Chat Works
The first 60 to 90 minutes we usually discuss the subjects chosen by those who attend the chat,
focusing on their areas of interest. Each student is learning at their own pace. Some questions
may be specific, others may be general. Any questions on heathenry is welcome. The Zoom
meetings are offered as a resource to ask questions and chat with other heathens. Attending
the Zoom meeting is NOT required to do the self-study course, and many students do the
course never attending a single meeting.
The first part of questions and discussion or presentation is part may be recorded. After the
focused study chat, the remaining time will be spent on social chat. This portion will not be
recorded. This part does not require attendance to participate in the study chat; you can drop off
at any time if attending the study part, attending the social part is not required. You are also
welcome to come late if needed. If the room is still open and available, you will be admitted.
Privacy: If being recorded causes privacy to be a concern for you, feel free to join with the
video blocked, or an attendee can put up a neutral picture in their free Zoom account (or leave
blank). Attendees can change their names to a code name and use the chat feature if speaking
and having their voice heard or recorded may be a concern.
When entering, you first enter a waiting room where all who join the room are admitted with their
microphones and videos blocked to allow them to set their preferences. This allows you to set
your settings as you desire. It is recommended you set up a free Zoom account so you can
preset a display picture, (keep it appropriate) your display when camera is turned off, so it is
ready when entering zoom meetings.
By joining the Zoom meeting for the chat part, you consent to and agree that you are aware that
the Zoom chat may be recorded and may be posted to YouTube for students in the program. By
joining and participating, you are demonstrating that you consent to this.
