  • Entschtanning
    02/01/2017 - 15:00 to 02/12/2017 - 15:00

Groundhog Day starts the twelve-day Urglaawe festival of Entschtanning (Emergence). The origins of the observance are shared by various events in many cutures. For example, the Carnival parades and revelry (e.g., Mardi Gras) have their roots in Heathen era traditions. Even Ash Wednesday is loaded with Heathen elements. The ashes that are spread on the forehead represent a reminder of mortality to Christians, but there is some evidence that the practice's origins were pre-Christian and represented instead a protective mark.
